Mario Kart World

Knockout Tour is a superb 24-racer pressure cooker and the handling remains immaculate. Free Roam is charming but thinner than the name “World” suggests.

The review

Mario Kart World understands that the series is at its best when a race becomes a story everyone retells. Knockout Tour delivers those stories constantly: a long cross-country run, six elimination gates, and just enough time between disasters to believe you are safe.

The connected world is less consistently exciting. Driving from one course to another creates scale and invites a pleasant scavenger hunt, but many diversions feel like sketches rather than reasons to live in the map. Grand Prix is also changed by the connecting roads, sometimes trading the tight identity of older circuits for continuity.

None of that weakens the fundamentals. Steering is readable, items are gleefully unfair, and assists let younger drivers stay in the pack. As the first game to put beside a Switch 2, it is easy to recommend; just buy it for the racing, not for an open-world adventure.

The family check

One of the safest crowd-pleasers on the system. Cartoon impacts are mild; online strangers, competitive frustration, and optional spending need more attention than the content.

  • Violence: Cartoon shells, fireballs, explosions, and dizzy stars; no injury detail.
  • Online: Online races include user interaction. Younger players should use supervised settings.
  • Frustration: Items can erase a lead in seconds. Assist options help new drivers stay involved.
  • Together: Excellent same-room play for up to four on one system.
