I Know Exactly When the Next Nintendo Direct Is

A fall presentation is a reasonable guess. An exact date from a thumbnail is not an announcement.

The short version

Nintendo has repeatedly held major presentations in September, so another fall Direct is a reasonable prediction—not confirmed information.
Nintendo officially lists The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for 2026, but it has not announced an exact release date.
The useful move is to follow Nintendo’s official announcement, ignore the daily date guesses, and play something in the meantime.

I know exactly when the next Nintendo Direct is happening.

It is happening when Nintendo announces it.

That is the entire leak. No anonymous insider. No blurry calendar. No ten-minute video explaining why a random Thursday is definitely the day.

Do I think Nintendo will hold another meaningful presentation this fall? Yes. September or October would make sense. But “that makes sense” and “Nintendo announced it” are two different statements, and gaming coverage keeps pretending they are the same thing.

The pattern is real. The exact date is not.

Nintendo held general Directs on September 23, 2021; September 13, 2022; September 14, 2023; and September 12, 2025. That is a real pattern, and it makes September a very reasonable guess.

It is not a rule. In 2024, Nintendo held an Indie World Showcase and Partner Showcase on August 27 instead of following that September general-Direct pattern. Nintendo also uses game-specific presentations, Partner Showcases, Indie World broadcasts, and normal press releases whenever those formats fit the news better.

History can give us a likely window. It cannot give us an official day and time. If the date is not on Nintendo’s website or official account, it is still a guess.

Nintendo already told us the useful part

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is officially coming to Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026. Nintendo announced it during the June 9 Direct, and the official store page still lists the release window as 2026. That part is real.

What Nintendo has not announced is the exact release date. Maybe the next general Direct will reveal it. Maybe Zelda gets its own presentation. Maybe Nintendo posts a trailer without a Direct at all. Until Nintendo says something, nobody watching a rumor video knows which option it will be.

The game is already scheduled for this year. We do not need a daily countdown to the announcement of an announcement. We need the real date when Nintendo is ready to give it to us.

The rumor never has to be right

This cycle is easy to run forever. One thumbnail says the Direct is next week. The week passes. Another video says plans changed. A new date appears. If Nintendo announces something later, everybody claims the original rumor was basically correct.

Meanwhile, we spend more time watching people predict a presentation than we will spend watching the presentation itself. We learn nothing, but the hype machine gets another view.

There is nothing wrong with wondering what Nintendo will announce. It can be fun for a few minutes. The problem starts when a reasonable prediction gets dressed up as confirmed news and repeated until people forget that Nintendo never said it.

Wait for Nintendo. Play something.

When Nintendo announces the next Direct, I will watch it. I will talk about what Nintendo actually showed, what looks worth playing, and what is still missing. Until then, I do not need another exact-date rumor.

Nintendo’s official Direct archive is easy to check. Follow the official account, wait for the notification, and go play a game. I am still working through Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. That is a better use of my time than watching five people guess five different Thursdays.
