The short version
- Monster Hunter Wilds launches on Switch 2 December 4, 2026.
- Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance is also coming; further information will follow.
- This is an announcement report, not a test of Switch 2 performance.
The hunt has a date
Monster Hunter Wilds launches on Nintendo Switch 2 on December 4, 2026. Nintendo opened its September 9 Direct with Capcom’s hunting RPG, putting a date on a version that had already been announced as being in development.
The presentation also confirmed that the massive expansion, Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, is on the way. It promised more information in the future. That is separate from the December 4 date for the base game: this announcement does not establish that the expansion is included with a purchase of Wilds.
A game built around learning the next hunt
The appeal here is not just seeing a large creature on a small screen. Monster Hunter turns those creatures into fights you learn. Equipment, positioning, and understanding an attack matter, and a difficult target gives you a reason to improve rather than simply move to the next marker.
For Switch 2 owners who have been waiting for this version, December gives them a concrete point to plan around. The expansion news also means the base game is not the only part of Wilds being discussed for the system. There is more planned, even if the details of that next step still need their own announcement.
The important test is still ahead
A trailer cannot tell us how a demanding hunt feels after an hour in handheld mode. We have not tested this release, so there is no NaizerBeam performance verdict or review score here. Frame-rate stability, image clarity, and responsiveness are things to check in the finished Switch 2 version.
The useful news today is straightforward: Wilds has a December 4 release date, and Ascendance is also on the way. If this will be your first Monster Hunter, the next question is whether its hunt-and-upgrade loop is something you want to spend time learning. If you already play elsewhere, the question is whether another version fits how you actually play.
Will Switch 2 be your first trip into Wilds, or are you already hunting on another platform?
