The short version

  • Launches February 25, 2027 on Nintendo Switch 2.
  • Includes the original Expansion Pass content and a new Calamity Mode difficulty.
  • Nintendo announced enhanced visuals and frame rate, more on-screen enemies, save transfers, and a digital discount for Switch-version owners.

This is Age of Calamity, not new Age of Imprisonment DLC

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity – Definitive Edition launches on Nintendo Switch 2 on February 25, 2027. The September Direct revisited the Warriors game built around the world and cast of Breath of the Wild, with upgrades and additional content bundled together.

That name matters. This is not an expansion announcement for Age of Imprisonment. It is a new release of Age of Calamity, including all the content from that game’s Expansion Pass.

More enemies, and a new reason to build up your fighters

Nintendo announced enhanced visuals and frame rate alongside battles featuring more enemies on screen. For a game about cutting through crowds and rushing between objectives, how smoothly it handles a busy battlefield matters at least as much as a sharper character model.

An additional difficulty called Calamity Mode is also included. Nintendo presented it as an even harder challenge against Hyrule’s monsters. That gives returning players something beyond another trip through familiar missions, although we will need to play it to judge whether the difficulty feels satisfying.

These are the improvements Nintendo described, not results from our own testing. The presentation did not give us enough to promise a particular locked frame rate across every battle.

Returning players can bring their save

Existing save data can transfer to the new version. Nintendo also announced a discount on the digital Switch 2 game for owners of the Switch version. Check the purchase terms for the exact offer rather than treating that as a free upgrade.

The combination is useful: returning players can keep their progress, while new players get the expansion content in the Definitive Edition. Whether it is worth buying again will depend on the final price and how much the performance and new difficulty add for you.

Would a smoother battlefield and Calamity Mode bring you back, or have you already had your fill of this Hyrule?
